Information about setting up RSS feeds

What is RSS?

RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video in a standardised format. An RSS document., also called a "feed" or "web feed," includes full or summarised text plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content quickly and automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favoured websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place.
Once you have chosen a news reader you can subscribe to a feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.
Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their web sites.

How do I get a news reader?

There is a range of different news readers available. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice.
