Board of trustees

What are schools’ rights and responsibilities around the school charter?

Each Board of Trustees must prepare a school charter detailing the mission, aims, objectives, directions, and targets of the Board and ensure it is updated each year.

The charter process is a mechanism for planning school initiatives and setting educational goals with the school community so that the board can then report on the school’s achievement. The Ministry of Education provides information to support the development of school charters.

The charter acts as an undertaking by the Board to the Minister, and must be approved by the Secretary for Education each time it is updated.
