Principal profile: Mark Gifkins
In 1998 I accepted the position of Deputy Principal at Parkvale School but soon after, gained my first Principal appointment at Takapau School in Central Hawke's Bay.
The next three years gave me the best foundation for principalship that I could have hoped for. I was able to challenge and grow my beliefs about education and the needs of the child. I soon learnt that it is quality teachers with passion that make the difference.
Now as Principal of Parkvale School I have become passionate about everything surrounding this school. My philosophy is simple – "The child first and always."
Having this in my mind makes decision making easy.
