I accepted the position of principal at Murrays Bay Intermediate in 2002 after 12 years as principal at Gladstone Primary. The challenge for me was to continue leadership at a high-performing school and to create a vision that would take the school into the next phase of a changing future.
I have previously been principal of two low decile schools and so I appreciate the differences in the organisational culture of schools that are determined by the environment in which they are set. Ongoing academic study informs my practice and helps me support the school's journey to becoming more effective as a learning institution.
I have two young children and a wife who is deputy principal of Kowhai Intermediate, so I lead a busy life.
I believe that people are the treasures of any place and need to be treated as such. It is the prospect of making a difference to all the folk in my care that drives me as a leader.
