I came to Morrinsville Intermediate six years ago, having started my career in 1971 at Otara Intermediate School. I've been principal of two schools in Taranaki (Whenuakura and Manaia), and I've spent eight years in Western Australia, studying and working as a consultant helping principals to develop self-managing schools.
For me, leadership is providing resources and vision, it's sort of a mixture between the art of leading and the practicality of managing, and you've got to get that balance right.
My style of leadership is collaborative and I build on relationships. I think it is absolutely essential that you actually lead people into things that they want to do.
