Manunui School

Principal profile: Lesley Murrihy

I started out at Manunui School doing relieving after having been at home with my children, and as always happens in schools, the job just grew. I started teaching fulltime in 1995, and then in 2001 became the principal of the school.

On the day that I was offered the principal's role, I was also accepted into the doctoral programme at Waikato University. I decided to do both, to begin my Doctor of Education and also to become principal.

I have a passion for learning. The exhilaration that comes from having learnt something new and being able to integrate it into your life is great. So as a leader the thing I was able to bring to the school is developing that passion for learning in teachers that creates change.
