Finlayson Park School
Principal profile: Shirley Maihi
I have been in education all of my life and I am still as passionate as ever about educating the young of our nation, and their parents if need be.
Having lived and worked in Manurewa for the past 35 years, I have a deep understanding and strong commitment to the families who live here. As principal of Finlayson Park School for the past 17 years, I have been proud to be a part of this school's journey to becoming the focus for our community as it is today.
During that time I have acted as teacher, mum, dad, counsellor, police officer and information centre for a wide range of multicultural families who are part of our school family. I am a member of many community groups, committees, and Trust Boards in the hope of making a difference for the youth of our area.
I was very proud to be recognised for my work recently when awarded both the NZ Suffrage Centennial Medal for supporting and promoting Women's Issues and the Queen's Service Medal for Public Services.
I am committed to excellence and support in education for students, staff, parents and the wider community.
