Online survey for principals about attendance

Principals are being invited to take part in a survey about schools’ attendance management strategies. Feedback is particularly invited from principals in schools that do not use, or rarely use, District Truancy Services.

A link to the survey will be emailed to all principals soon.

The results of the survey will inform effective practice guidelines currently being developed by the Ministry of education for attendance management.

The survey will take about 15 – 20 minutes to complete. It covers the following broad areas:

  • views on non attendance and the characteristics of unjustified absence
  • systems in place to monitor attendance
  • actions taken by schools specifically associated with maximising attendance
  • actions taken by schools that relate to the broader school environment
  • how schools define and monitor effective attendance management
  • enablers and barriers to implementation of effective attendance management.

Principals may wish to forward the invitation to staff with responsibility for attendance management.

The opportunity to complete the survey will remain open for four weeks. Principals will receive reminder emails during that time.
