Applications now open for Aspire Scholarships

Applications have opened for the 2011 round of the Ministry of Education’s Aspire Scholarship. There are 50 year 9 and over 20 year 10 Aspire Scholarships available for 2011.
The Aspire Scholarship is for students from low-medium income families who would like to attend a New Zealand private secondary school. The scholarship contributes up to $15,000 per year for private secondary school tuition fees and up to $1,500 per year for course related costs.
The scholarship does not cover boarding fees and cannot be used at state or state-integrated schools.
Students are eligible for an Aspire Scholarship if:
- they will be in year 9 or 10 in 2011
- the joint annual gross income of their primary caregiver(s) is $65,000 or less
- the joint net worth of their primary caregiver(s) is $150,000 or less
- they, or their primary caregiver(s), are not beneficiaries of any trusts (exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis)
- they are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand.
Applications must be received at the Ministry of Education National Office (in Wellington) by 5pm on 17 May 2010 to be considered for selection. All applications that meet these criteria will be included in a ballot and drawn at random for the available scholarships.
