Teacher recruitment advice for principals
Each year, Teach NZ produces the Principals’ Guide to Teacher Recruitment: Primary and Intermediate Schools and the Principals' Guide to Teacher Recruitment: Area and Secondary Schools. The guides contain everything you need to know about employing both New Zealand-trained and overseas teachers.

These guides summarise the teacher supply incentives and support that are available to assist principals with teacher recruitment, including:
- helping teachers move to new positions within New Zealand
- encouraging New Zealand-trained teachers to return to New Zealand from offshore, or overseas-trained teachers to take up employment in New Zealand schools.
If you are considering appointing an overseas-trained teacher, we encourage you to read the "Recruitment from Overseas" section and Appendix 1 of the guides. These sections include important information on NZQA assessment of qualifications, registration, and work permit requirements.
The guides are reviewed and updated annually, so please disregard any previous editions.
